Changing your (last) name after marriage

Ladies, are you one of the people who will change their last name to their husband's last name?
Or are you the ones who prefer a hypen in between two last names?

These kind of tradition is more of a western culture.
At some point, it is simplified and made easy for people to do.
I mean, this link from The Knot even provide a Name-Change Kit!

But no such thing happen in Indonesia.
It can be done, I suppose, in one way or another. But it will take a lot of time, and most probably cost a lot of money. In such case, married woman in Indonesia will always have their own last name given by their parents.

It crushes my darling T, a little bit. I know that he's looking forward for me to change my name and use his family name.

  1. Here in Indonesia you can do something call : perubahan nama or penambahan nama.
All you have to do is filing some docs : formal request letter (incl. reason why you want your name changed/added) and copy of valid documents you have to local PN (pengadilan negeri) or district court.
After a week you will have a formal letter from the court mention the changing/adding of your name.
With this letter you can start using your new name on the personal documents you need.
If you add your spouse's last name, the immigration will write down on the endorsement page that you are the souse of Mr.... on your old pasport. Once you have to get a new pasport then you can use your 'new name' on the front page with your photo on it.
Good luck mrs. Smith to be :)
